Is Ilhan Omar about to be deported? No reported development establishes that. But there is a serious federal investigation, and the distinction matters.
In October 2026, CBS News reported that relatives of the Minnesota congresswoman had received grand jury subpoenas in a criminal inquiry into possible fraud or false statements in the family’s immigration paperwork. Federal agents searched Omar’s Washington home on October 12, and investigators took her phone. CBS reported that Homeland Security Investigations was leading the inquiry, with the Justice Department assisting.
The public still cannot see the full basis for that search. On October 28, FOX 9 reported that a judge had kept the warrant sealed after the Justice Department argued that releasing it could harm the investigation. FOX 9 said no charges had been filed against Omar as of its report. Omar denies wrongdoing and says the administration is weaponizing law enforcement against political opponents. President Trump said he had nothing to do with the search.
So what about deportation? A search warrant is not a decision to revoke someone’s citizenship. USCIS policy says a person who completed naturalization remains a citizen unless and until that citizenship is revoked. In a civil denaturalization case, the Justice Department must go to federal district court and meet a high burden of proof—for example, showing illegal procurement of citizenship or a material, willful misrepresentation. Losing citizenship would not, by itself, answer every subsequent question about immigration status or removal.
The bottom line: investigators are examining allegations, not announcing a deportation. The warrant was still sealed and no charges had been filed in the October 28 reporting. What happens next depends on evidence and legal proceedings—not on the fact that federal agents searched her home.
