This update covers the Miami cargo-plane crash and the mail-ballot court fight, with evidence as of 2026-09-06.
On September 6, an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane operated by 21 Air overran a runway at Miami International Airport after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and struck multiple vehicles. At least five people were killed. Five others were injured, including three reported in critical condition. The National Transportation Safety Board sent an investigative team led by Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy. By that evening, two of the airport’s four runways had reopened.
Also on September 6, the Trump administration renewed its appeal to the Supreme Court to allow new mail-ballot restrictions before the November midterm elections. If enforcement were allowed, the Postal Service rule would require states to upload the names, addresses, and barcode information of intended mail-ballot recipients through an online portal. Under the blocked rule, states and local officials would continue to decide voter eligibility, eligibility to vote by mail, and which ballots were eligible to be counted.
United States District Judge Indira Talwani extended an order blocking the Postal Service from enforcing the rule for the November 2026 elections. As of September 6, that injunction remained in place while the Trump administration sought Supreme Court intervention.
